Hooded Scarf

in a lovely turquoise in the most squishable machine washable wool.

The is the hood section beginning at the neckline
going up to the top of the head

Once the hood is complete
it will be attached to a long cable-patterned scarf.
Yet to be knit  :^)

'Finished in time for our first truly winter day', is what DD#2 is no doubt wishing.
This will be for Debbie when it's finished.

Klick-Klack

The sound of my needle tips knitting these stitches that create something wonderfully
cozy for this coming winter weather.

The beginning of another quick knit hat.

It's another Gnome Acres yarn
in the
Under The Christmas Tree
colorway

Oh, yes, it's another hat for Gerry

Some new yarn made it into my Stash

There's an independent dyer whose colors I'm a sucker.
If you remember my post about my Franklin's Journey Shawlette, well it's the very same dyer.
GnomeAcres dyes the most gorgeous colors.

Here's what I knit with a couple of colorway
that wouldn't stay out of my shopping cart.

Meet Molly Weasley
[ala Harry Potter series]
Molly has a corodinating color heel.
I improvised the bitty cables on the front of the leg.
Fun, fun, fun to wear
keeps my feet toasty and
keeps a smile on my face.

Arthur Weasley became a Honey Cowl.
When I wrap 'round twice,
Arthur keeps those pesky Canadian breezes from
winding down my neck and  into my jacket.
I'm definitely not ready for winter weather.
How 'bout you?

That was a couple of quick knits to keep these fingers busy

Whew! October was a busy month.

Out-of-town visitors from California kept us hopping.
The beginning of the month our older son made a quick appearance,
the end of the month brought younger son and d-i-l
and
our older daughter.

Not much planning of activities
- we all like to take what comes.

Our Capitol was highlight a couple of days.
A guided tour of our beautiful Capitol one day
and a private tour for some of us another day.

Lots of visits to favorite eating spots
- especially Central Dairy -
Boy, oh, boy, did we ever get our fill of dairy.
Extreme Moose Tracks and Bear Claw
seemed to be the flavors of choice.
Couldn't talk anyone into a Banana Split.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Now that everyone has returned to the West Coast
we have taken time to remove any and all of the Halloween decor.
By the way, how many Trick-or-Treaters rang your door bell????
Wanna guess how many we had
- here I am bragging again -
did ya take a stab at how many?
Nine
that's 9 little ghost or gobblins or rather Princesses, Super Heroes and, yes, even one member of some SWAT TEAM ! ! ! ! !
Cute, every one.
But what do we do with the rest of the candy???

v^v^v^v^v

Between the arrivals and departures of our kid's visits
there was time to knit.
Yeah, yeah, I know you're not one bit surprized.

Well, with the turn of the seasons and cooler to cold temps making it known every time we left the house,
I decided I needed a knit hat to keep my ears warm.

So I cast on using the Tree Frog colorway
and knit the ribbing that would hug my head and ears.

Then began the decrease portion.
By decreasing five times each round I created a wonderful swirl effect that I just love.

Keeps my ears warm and my head snuggled into this yummy Merino wool.

Have you ever attempted to photography yourself wearing a knit hat?
Well, it ain't easy!
Don't ask me how I know.
However, the number 23 does come to mind when I think about it.

Hubby came to my rescue
and got just the angle I wanted to show off my knit  hat.
xxx to you, Hubby.

* * * * * * * * * * *

Our visitors have returned to the West Coast
and October has become November.
It was time to put away all the
 - well, almost all the Halloween stuff and such.
WHAT DO WE DO ABOUT
PENELOPE THE EMPATHETIC MONSTER?????

 Gotta love her grin.
She's just too dang cute to put out of view,
don't ya think.

What's cookin' . . . . .

Finally found a replacement slowcooker for the one that I broke last Christmas!

Picked up carrots, celery, mushrooms, onion, potatoes, onion soup mix, vegetable broth to go
with the first piece of meat we've bought this year.
Which was a 2.35 lb. chuck roast!

Invited DD#2 over,
popped open a can of biscuits
and had a nice family dinner.

Sox & Cowl

Add another pair to my sock drawer!

Meet Molly Weasley
a fantastic colorway
hand-dyed by Amanda of GnomeAcres
When I caught a glance of
Amanda's colors
I knew I had to have ! ! !

Her Arthur Weasley colorway
is now in the midst
of becoming a cowl.

~  ~  ~  ~  ~  ~  ~  ~  ~  ~  ~  ~
Speaking of cowls,
how 'bout this cowl!

Can't get enough of this wonderful Saffron color from MadelineTosh yarns.

As you can see by my
KnitMeters on the sidebar
I've been a knittin' this calendar year.
I'm amazed by these totals!

Summer has gone away. .  .  .  .
Our weather is, well,
autumn-like.

Just enough of cooler temps
to have us digging out
a sweater or a hoodie.

Leaves cover the driveways,
as well as the entire yard -
both front and back,

There's been a crack or two of thunder
along with a bit of rain,

gusty winds causing mini leaf storms.

Thoughts of a nice hot cup of
- - -
well, you fill in the blank
- - -
dark roasted coffee?

a robust black tea?

or perhaps a pungent herbal tea?

spicy mulled cider in a mug?

How 'bout a
spicy pumpkin mocha topped with whipped cream
with just a sprinkle of nutmeg?

we could add a warm Apple Tart !!!

We'll be bringing out the knit hats soon,
very soon.

Enjoy our Autumn

It's been a busy time 'round here

The change in the season has been just what we needed 'round here.
The trees are colorful and the grass is a bit greener than all summer and not really growing enough to get the mower started.

Can I get you a cup of hot apple cider?
Earl Grey tea?
Italian Roast coffee?

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Guess it'll be no surprize to ya
when I show you what I've been doing.

Worse Than a Zombie
is the name of this colorway

Worn them today for the first time
and my feet were toasty warm in this fifty degree F weather.
.  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .

I'll tell your right now,
I cast on two new pair of sox this weekend!!!!
Can't get enough of knitting dem sox.

*  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *

Finished a shawl this past week.
While there are beads on the lower edge,
they can't be seen is this photo.

It's knit in a pashmina yarn.
That's
75% Merino wool
15% silk
10% cashmere

Feels decadent next to the skin,
just sayin'.
♥  ♥  ♥  ♥  ♥  ♥  ♥

Brought in the potted plants yesterday afternoon, temp dropped to 32 degrees F overnight.
Haven't decided
whether they're in the garage for the winter or
just 'til this cold snap passes and
we have a few more nice weeks before it truly to turns cold.

00  00  00  00  00  00  00  00  00  00

Thanks for stopping by
perhaps next time
you'll have time
for hot cocoa and cookies.

Watch Cap

Knit this Watch Cap
for Hubby
earlier this year.

Realized that I hadn't blogged it
when I finished my Green Thumb Mitts with the yarn
remaining from the watch cap.

The other day when I was getting out our
cool weather coats and jackets
I found the watch cap.
So here it is.

It's knit in Dream In Color Everlasting DK
that was a bonus skein from
The Loopy Ewe.

Adding this to my year's total yardage,
I've now knit 12,937 yards
or
7.38 miles so far.

A striped Finished Pair

Wore these yesterday and let me tell ya
they feel good ! ! !
And are they every LOUD.

The remaining yarn
I'm knitting fingerless mitts knowing
they'll be as loud
and these sox.
What fun ! ! !

***********************

Threw this knit hat into the mix just for the fun it.
Finished it in record time and was able
get over the the post office on Tuesday in time for DD#1's birthday.
It's being delivered today! ! !
Is that USPS fast, or what.

Happy Birthday, girl!
How old are you?????
heh heh heh

It's knit with Fibernymph Dyeworks' Snuggles base
Aran weight / 10 ply
80% Wool, 10% Nylon, 10% Cashmere

I joined Fibernymph's Yarn Club earlier this year and received some lovely skeins, this included.

Lovely to knit with, soft and squishy !!!
It knit up into a great snugglely winter hat.

Between this hat and the stripe sox
my
2012 current total of yarn knit:
12,750 yards
or
7.24 miles

+++++++++++++++

I re-photographed these two
knits just because I think it makes my new styrofoam head look beautiful ! ! !
; - )

One stripe-y sock finished.
Am working on the second afterthought heel
and there'll be a pair
This is for Knitabulls Podcast Self-stripping Sock KAL
or it will be when they're a pair.

Bead assortment to pick from for my next shawl.
I'll be knitting with MadelineTosh Pashmina in Whitewash.
If you recall, it's the yarn used in the border of Sheldon and Leonard Shawl.
Since I'm not into making hard decisions,
I'm going to randomly pick from each of these
bead dishes when adding them to the shawl.

! ? ! ? ! ?

We use our local library to download audiobooks to my laptop so that we can enjoy listening to them in the evenings.
I usually knit or do handwork while listening.

Sometimes our choice from the library is limited so we will pick 'unknown-to-us' authors.

We were in for a hoot-and-a-half when we
happened across the Book #5 in a series.
Didn't know what to expect.

We nervously chuckled and couldn't decide whether
to be horrified or not.
It's totally entertaining - I think.

- - - - - - - - - -
happy dance!  happy dance!
Rain, we got rain!
Since late Friday night
we've had at least 3.5" ! ! !
plus we'll be getting cooler temps next week !!!!

DVD - it's not what you think

It stands for

an independent dyer

Susan lives in Arizona
[we all know how much I love that State for all it's beauty]
The Internet provides easy access
to everyone [Me]
to Susan's online shop.

She provides GREAT SERVICE with special attention to my order that encourages me to go back for more yarn.
I got my shipment Pronto! ! !

I picked her Logo colorway with vibrant colors
in a lovely sock weight yarn of
75% Superwash Merino Wool
and 25% Nylon to add durability so these hand-knit babies will last a long, long time.

The great feature of superwash wool is that I can toss my sox into a zip bag and into the washer it goes.
I lay each sock flat to dry.

This is my first skein from Susan and could not be more pleased with my purchase.

With a helping hand from Hubby
we had wound that skein into two yarn cakes in no time at all
so that I could cast on for
Knitabulls Podcast September Self-Striping
Sock Knit A Long.
Diane's such a sweetheart.

I use

[this is a great YouTube if you're interested]
and I'm on my way.

This method gives a rounded toe
with the increase stitches evenly divided
giving a star effect.
Well, this darker stripe does not show this,
but believe me it's a great lookin' star effect.
And so dang easy

I cast on yesterday afternoon
and was going great guns
until - - - -
I looked at my progress
then frogged back this much late last night!

Was enjoying the rhythm of the increases so much
that I made it waaaay to big.

No big deal.
It's only yarn.

Made up for some of the lost time already
it's not easy taking pics of one's self
This far along so far.
Now that I'm nearly finished with this post

I'll pick up my needle and knit on!

*  *  *  *  *  *  *  *
Oh, oh, I have to tell ya!!!!!
Rain, we got rain ! ! ! !
Two and a half inches since late Friday night.

Our grass is greening up and our big trees' leaves have turned their faces up once more.
