KAL Cauchy

Since I have changed yarn for this KAL
[Knit A  Long]
the pattern has emerged.
Unlike the previous yarn choice
this lighter, solid shade
certain does Cookie A's pattern right.

The cuff and heel which is knit in a green yarn
in an attempt to use up stashed yarn.

The Raverly Cookie A
Knit.Sock.Love KAL
officially begins in January
so this means poor little ol' me will have to
do a little yarn shopping for
some solid yarn
so that the intricate stitches are shown to their best.
Poor me .  .  .  .

Have also been sewing and
gee, guess what,
ORGANIZING ! ! !

Haven't made much headway on any of these fronts.

I knew this wasn't the best choice . . .

You know I joined Rav's Cookie A Designed Socks KAL.

And, you know I chose to use this self-striping yarn

which I knew wasn't a good yarn to knit any kind of a pattern and expect it to show up.

Can you see any pattern besides the ribbed cuff?

These sox are destined to be frogged [rip-it, rip-it, rip-it out]

back to the ribbed cuff.

I've found some solid color yarn that I'll begin 

once more making Cauchy.

I'll post photos of the new sox/yarn as soon as 

I do more than Cast On.

Make a Fabric Turner

Daughter Deb and I spent this afternoon sewing.

Cut 400+ inches of 2.5" binding strips.

GO! figure ! ! ! !   We used the GO! ! ! 

Once she squared up her Patriotic Stars quilt

she was able to get the binding sewn on to the back of the quilt.

We attempted to use Pat Sloan's machine method of finishing the binding but we were not successful.

We have not given up on Pat's way and we will

give it a try again down the line.

You may remember I joined the Rav group for Cookie A's book

Sock Innovation last year

and committed to the KAL.

Sad to say my intentions were disrupted in September 

when hubby encountered a  couple of medical problems.

Well, those problems have sorted themselves out so that we are back to our usual routine more or less.

So when I was invited to join a new Cookie A RAV Group: 

Knit. Sock. Love.

I jumped right in

There are already 181 of us.

There's to be the beloved KAL 

which/that won't begin until after the holidays.

In the meantime, we are doing a

Any Cookie A pattern.

So I decided to knit a pattern from Sock Innovation.

Cauchy is a simple knit-purl combo that 

forms lines that resemble inequality signs.

You know I favor Toe-Up Magic Loop Method of knitting sox, 

but this time it'll be Cuff Down still on Magic Loop Method ending with the Kirtchner Stitch.  Oh, happy day ! ! ! .

While I ordered my copy of SKL I also purchased a 

pdf downloadable copy.

I want to have a jump on picking my faves so I'll be ready when voting time to chose a pattern for January comes 'round...

The lace edge is knit as you go and is an easy twelve row repeat.

It's one of those purse-sized projects that you can whip out anytime you have a couple of minutes wait time.

I carried it for months but finally finished it last week just in time for
our monthly Knit Nite.  Had to show it off, don't ya know.

With the Autumn weather turnng in
some cooling weather here in mid-MO
my newest addition to My Neckwarmer Collection my get used before our truly icy weather after the first of the year.

Die-Cut Tumbler Blocks

A week ago Saturday when D#2 and I made up our minds as to what we were going to work on during our Sew Day,
our plans immediately changed when the mailman delivered my AccuQuilt Tumbler Die.

Out came my entire blue Scrap Stash.
It took us more time picking out the pieces that would fit the die than it did for us to cut.

We were able to cut the twenty blocks used in this tabletopper plus only a couple more before we used every blue scrap of the correct size.

While I manned the Bernina
Debbie handed over the blocks in the order of the lay-out on the design wall.
It took us no time at all to sew up this little top.

We had a short Sew Day and really accomplished something.

During the week when there was a free minute or two I added a border with a green flange,

quilted it a little.  Just enough  .. .. ..   ~quarter inch from either side of the seams.

Then used the Flower shapes cut using the die that came with the GO!
We cut these shapes from fabric that already had Wonder-Under -
so they were ready to be fused to our Tumbler Top.

 

That's about as far as it has come, so far.

Will be doing some machine stitching on the flowers, stems and petals.

Haven't decided about binding .

AccuQuilt GO! Fabric Cutter Dies

Mr Random Number Generator eat your heart out, pine away,

'cause I'm not dependent upon your whimsical mood any longer 

when it comes to acquiring a GO! ! ! ! ! 

Last week I bit the bullet and plunked down my $ $ $ $ 's 

and brought this magical device to it's long awaited home ! ! ! !  

 i.e.:  GerryART's 'studio'

As soon as we got home 

off I dashed to my Scrap Stash while hubby release GO! from it's cardboard travel container.

That afternoon we cut 4.5" squares, 2.5" squares and 2.5" triangles for an hour or more.

Phoned D#2 told her the news - - -

after work she ran home to let Precious doggie out for a quick nature break.

That evening, three or so hours, we cut more squares and triangles.

Such fun ! ! ! 

Piles and piles of cut perfectly cut pieces ready for action.

In the days since,

Double Scoop of Vanilla Sox

 Sock Progress:

I have two pair of just plain vanilla basic style sox on my needles.

This Forest Green pair has re-enforced toes

with ribbed instep and leg.

Yarn:  Lambs Pride SuperWash Wool Sport yarn.

Needles:  #3 forty-inch circular

They're ready to begin the gusset

then on to the slip stitch heel.

I'm following Wendy D Johnson's

method as seen on page 41

of her book

Socks from the Toe Up

This striped pair are at the same point -
ready for the gusset, also.

Ribbing on this pair will begin at the leg.

Sew Day Aprons

DD#2 and I had one of our

Sew Days over the week end.

Using already-made aprons from Hobby Lobby

and several orphan blocks

we came away with these

Not certain what DD#2 is going to do with hers

I made this Mystery Quilt
designed by Pam Oliver
several years ago.
I added the raw edge appliqué
to fill in the wide border.
I like the way it turned out.

She was hanging out at a Mennonite-owned fabric shop
and was game when asked to join our road trip.
I enjoyed her company so much that I asked if she'd like to stay at my place for a while.

Carryall for my Netbook & More

Recently one of our quilt guild members
issued a challenge to the rest of us.

Her challenge:
using the home dec samples that she rescued from going to the trash
[they were out-dated].
we are to make some thing from these samples,
show and tell about it,
and
make some thing from them to donate to the guild as a $$$$ maker.

Earlier I posted about a Roly Nester zip bag made from the samples.
I donated one to the guild
it was part of that evening's giveaway.
[Actually, my dil won it - fair and square - and she was thrilled]

My next project in this challenge used FOUR of the samples
I made another Simply Chic Carryall

 

I made it for my netbook

- - - pretty neat, huh ? - - -

 

As you can see in addition to my netbook

I've a place for my ear buds, surge protector and

wireless mouse.

 

I used store bought handles this time.

They just seemed to go with the wonderful carpet bag samples.
