Gorgeous Yarn

Lorna's Laces  Solemate  in Black Purl
55% Superwash Merino, 15% Nylon, 30% Outlast
fingering weight

Isn't this gorgeous !

It's Lorna's Laces yarn Solemate with outlast,
a space-age technology designed by NASA to keep astronauts comfy in their spacesuits.

This technology is now used in yarn

so the garments we knit will keep us comfy, too.

Below is a quick description
Taken from The Loopy Ewe
This sock weight yarn is made from superwash Merino, nylon, and Outlast (R), a fiber technology that interacts with the body's microclimate to moderate temperature, to help from being too hot or too cold. It's "yarn with a built-in climate control!"

You may recall,
this pair of sox began as Gimli,
a eye-catching design that truly screams for a yarn with great stitch  definition.

This yarn base has fantastic stitch definition

but not in this Black Purl colorway.

So they're being knit as a generic sox
with hopes that the gorgeous color gets the attention it deserves.

They've a standing rib cuff
with a few eyelets running down the leg portion.

Love it!!!

I think the heels will be Cat Bordhi's design:
I've provided a link to  Cat's YouTube instructions
It's a great way to custom fit your sox to your heel

Love it ! ! ! !

Gimli's on the back burner 'til later this year.

Thank you all for the lovely comments on my previous post.
Thank you.

Have a wonderful weekend!

      Pardon me, please.
You know I love and appreciate each of your thoughts.
The Lorna's Laces Solemate is wonderful to knit with and has darn good stitch definition. So much so - - - - I've purchased three more skeins.

  2. It's gorgeous and I thought the eyelets look like music notes to me or am I the only one who sees that?
    Wishing you a great weekend.

    1. Valèria, I'm so sorry to have not replied sooner. Truly I thought I had. I guess all those conversations I have in my head need to be expressed with my fingers on my keyboard.

Your creative observation has me thinking could I not make those eyelets all around the leg portion with a specific tune????????

  3. I'm kind of a space nut, I may have to get myself some of that yarn. I love the colorway you picked out, it seems to glow with intensity! I think you made a good call trying this yarn with this pattern, I cannot wait to see it finished!

  4. Cuff down?!!! I'm surprised. I agree this yarn is beautiful enough to not need an intricate design. It would get lost in the color changes. It looks very nice in this simple pattern. Scrumptions yarn.

    1. Hey, Dianna, I knit both ways. Depends on the pattern - some can be reversed. However, when this pair started out as Gimli there was NO WAY they were going to be done other than the designers intention.
This eyelet pair will be wonderful on my feet :^)
Sorry for the belated response, D.

  6. You've just introduced me to a new yarn. Very pretty color. Eyelets lend just the right amount of design. I can't wait to see them in person and feel the texture of this high tech yarn.

    1. Hey, weaver, I'm curious also to know just how much of a different this NASA-design Outlast will make this winter. I'll be sure to blog about it.
Normally, I reply much quicker. in truth I thought I had. Can I blame it on this HOT summer?

hope to have you return for another visit.

  10. Thanks for visiting, weaver. The outlast does seem to have some affect when Stockinette Zombie/Megan knit her sweater.
Black Purl is gorgeous, isn't it

  11. The socks look fab. I've just discovered sock knitting and recently finished my first pair. Nothing as delicate as yours you understand but I'm very happy with them. I need to find a tutorial to show me how to knit two pairs on one circular needle as you seem to be doing. Happy knitting sweetie.
Oh, yes I did do my own 1940's hair-do, very rough and ready but it did the job although I couldn't wait to get home and take all the pins out, lol.

  12. Okay...now I have to try that sock yarn. So cool!! I love that colour way...very dramatic and you are right to make it a simple sock so that the richness of the yarn is hilited. Gimli, to me, screams to be done in a fern green colour way. Something forest-y anyway. I don't know why, but it just seems that way to me. I need to queue that pattern...if I haven't already.

Well done, my friend! Cheers, veelau

So you're feeling fern, I was thinking along the lines of a lite beige with a small [] amount of variation with an ever so slight darker shade.
Oh, I'm attempting to describe Lorna's Laces Solemate in the Buckingham Fountain colorway.
I'm floating on air thinking about your comment on Sheri's blog.
