This Afternoon

Right after we drove into the garage from having lunch out
the tornado siren went off.

Spent the next two hours downstairs listening to the scanner and radio
for storm reports.

While there was no extreme weather in our neighborhood,
just west of town a sheriff's car was turned onto its side with the deputy inside.

However, Mother Nature showed her nasty side.
About fifty miles to the west a tornado touched down and did it's damage to part of a neighborhood.

Once the siren's ceased to blare and the sky turned from black to just cloudy and rainy we saw that we had received an inch of rain.
No wind damage.

So this is what I worked on
the rest of the afternoon.

Our quilt guild is having a pot holder swap so
I'm playing with some ideas
while hoping to end up with potholders
that I can use to swap.
Otherwise family will be getting potholders.

Not certain how many layers of Insul-Brite and batt to use.
Any suggestions?

  6. We came out of Schnuck's today and the sirens were going off. We felt so helpless and scared not knowing which way to go.
Got home, only had rain and a little wind. We lost power for over 2 hours (working for the Electric coop didn't have any benefits!)
    Stay safe

  8. Love that potholder design - it's so striking! I had a tornado warning here the other day. (I'm working in Wisconsin.) Thank goodness nothing happened.

  9. That's scary Gerry and much too close for comfort. Way to keep your mind on happy things by making your beautiful potholder. I love it! Great colour and design choices!

    Take care Gerry!

  10. Gerry glad you are safe and sound. Those tornadoes have been scary for the middle of the US. I am in Wisconsin, where we have had a couple near us. I am grateful for my basement on those days.

One layer of batting is all I used on my quilt as you sew potholder on Hodgepodge Patchwork Tuesday. I gave it to my cousin and he is amazed that it works so great with the one layer of heat resistant batting.

    I love you potholder!

  11. Hi Gerry, Good Lord, the sound of sirens just has to get you in the pit of your stomach! We have tornado watches and warnings often enough in Virginia, but we don't have sirens around here. Of course, the frequency of such events (and size of the storm/duration/ severity) is probably much less here than where you are. I can't imagine hearing those sirens! And we, for the most part, don't have basements or cellars around here - just inside rooms on the first level. Scary enough. I'm a born and raised Cali girl who never had a healthy respect for storms or thunder and lightning until moving here seven years ago. I now have a VERY healthy respect for such events. And I love your potholder! The colors pop! To me, it looks like a fine piece of Oriental art...I think it's that circle in the center. Gorgeous work. x&o...stay safe, Annette
