Sew What's New . . . .

For Mother's Day my dear sweet dil sent me a pattern she found while shopping in a quilt shop in Lake Havasu City, AZ.
Jae's Attic
She saw this and thought it something I'd like to try.
Here is 'Crazy Eight Strip Teaser - a Table Topper' on the design wall.

Ron and I have giving it a test run on our breakfast table for the past week or so.
I chose the eight colors with the help of daughter Debbie after a Thimbleberries Club meeting.

Here's a bird's-eye-view.
The edges are triple-stitched then trimmed with the pinking blade in my rotary cutter.
Once it is laundered - no doubt tomorrow, just before Son #2 and his dear, sweet wife arrive for a visit -
the edges will fluff the cotton batting and give it a little more character.

Last month at quilt guild we were given the challenge to make something from the home dec samples that one of our members were able to grab before they were discarded at the end of the season.
The only thing asked was that some of the items we make will be donated to the guild for either door prizes for our monthly meetings or for our next quilt show's mercantile boothe.

While constructing a new bag using a StudioKat Design pattern I visited their website and found a pattern that I thought would work for the home dec samples.
I'm using roly-nesters pattern from
StudioKat Designs

This design is described as a storage units for purse, bookbag, travel, etc.
We quilters, crocheters and knitters know that these will hold all kinds of neat tools and gadgets we seem to accumulate.

The interior lined and neatly finished.
Once I followed the directions - yep, I read - well, then I had to rip a couple stitches - and then I re-read the directions - the second one was a breeze.

I love working with these sample pieces.  These are upholstery weight and don't require any of the fusible fleece that is recommended in the pattern.

These are a few of the finished projects that I been working on intermittently over the past month or so.
Now it's your turn to tell what you been working on this summer?

The wild wind and thunder and lightening AND RAIN we had this morning got every one up early
and it's watered our lawns and flower beds once again.

  1. My latest project was a hand pieced tumbling block little quilt. I finished the top last week but the hand quilting will have to wait until later, probably even until winter.

Did you make the flower wallhanging? Very striking!

  4. OMGosh, Gerry, that table topper is fantastic! I love the shape and the fabrics you used! What a stunning punch of color for your kitchen table! And I really like those little bags...I have that pattern but haven't ever made any of them. Guess one of these days I'll give it a go.

I finished up that Sleepover Bag and have been working on two special order bags for the same woman. Gotta get them finished up in the next few days and get them to her...I have about 6 more waiting in the wings!

  12. Nice table topper. How did Lynn like it? Did not want to say anything to her last night since I did not know if you had given it to her yet. Seem as though she enjoyed herself at the guild meeting.
